2017 marks the 42nd year of the Burdekin Interschool Drama Festival. This long-running, annual event proudly showcases the performance talents and production skills of the Burdekin’s high school students and this year’s event promises to continue that tradition.
This year patrons will have the pleasure of experiencing three performances throughout the evening:
Home Hill State High School presents Robin Hood – Women in tights!
Hazzah! This is the story of Robin Hood…well kind of. We are challenging gender roles this year. Robin is a very capable, witty girl ably supported by her band of merry persons and Lord Mario, who is very in touch with his feminine side. Together they will defeat the haughty Princess Ja’mie of robbing from the rich and giving to the poor…well kind of. An array of characters from the panini-loving Friar Tuck to the medieval rock start and his band of cheerleading ‘wenches’ to the not-so-little John Little will assist Robin on her quest to right wrongs and prove girls can indeed do anything, even while wearing tights!
Burdekin Catholic High School presents The internet is a distraction: Oh, Look a kitten!
Micah has only twenty minutes to finish her paper on The Great Gatsby. She just needs to check a few facts on the internet first. Unfortunately, the web is a nefariously whacky place where boxing cats, Facebook lurkers, and pig-throwing games threaten to take over Micah’s schoolwork, or worse. Will she finish her paper and escape her life before the school bell rings? A high-octane comedy that explores the rabbit hole of distraction we all go down every time we go online.
